Science Explains Why Women Are Attracted To Narcissistic Assh*les

At the beginning of essentially every single romantic comedy about high school, a handsome, athletic assh*le dates the prettiest girl in school.

All the while, a sensitive, caring, skinny boy looks on in envy, wondering what he’s doing wrong. By the end of the movie, the skinny dweeb finds a way to win the girl, and everyone leaves feeling a little bit better about the world.

Unfortunately, this is far from what happens in reality.

Simply put, women are habitually attracted to narcissistic men and often end up marrying them.

Recently, Carrie Haslam and Tamara Montrose of Hartpury College in England conducted research in regards to marriage, relationships and narcissistic men.

The study, highlighted by Pacific Standard Magazine, drew data from146 British women, all between 18 and 28 years old.

The study found even when women dated self-absorbed jackasses in the past, they never learned their lessons and continued to pursue these types of men.

Moreover, the more relationship experience each subject had, the more she found narcissistic men attractive.

Even more interestingly, the research found women who were attracted to the prospect of marriage were even more likely to prefer narcissistic men.

In other words, women seeking commitment seem to be drawn to men who are the epitome of uncommitted.

Apparently, it all has to do with the self-confidence and power narcissistic men exude. When women are looking for a suitable mate, these are certainly preferable qualities.

Yet, they’re also deceiving, as narcissistic men are more likely to be unfaithful and unsupportive.

In other words, narcissistic men are more likely to cheat, think about themselves and generally be completely awful human beings.

But the heart wants what it wants, no?
